What is Buyer CoC?
Buyer CoC is an audit that assesses an organisation against the code of conduct set by its buyer. “CoC” means Code of Conduct. The code describes requirements the buyer expects its suppliers or business partners to follow.
Buyer codes vary. Their requirements may address how an organisation operates and manages its responsibilities. The applicable code, scope and audit criteria depend on the buyer’s requirements, so the audit should be planned around the specific code rather than assumed to follow one universal Buyer CoC standard.
AuditCert International audits against the code of conduct provided or specified by the buyer. The audit reviews the organisation’s relevant system and evidence against those requirements. It is distinct from management system certification to standards such as ISO 9001 or ISO 45001, unless those are separately requested and agreed.
Who needs a Buyer CoC audit?
A Buyer CoC audit may be relevant to an organisation that supplies goods or services, or otherwise works with a buyer that requires suppliers to demonstrate alignment with its code. The buyer may request an audit as part of supplier approval, ongoing monitoring or a specific contractual or sourcing requirement.
In Bangladesh, organisations across different industries may encounter such requests when supplying buyers in domestic or international markets. The buyer’s own requirements determine whether an audit is needed, what activities and sites are in scope, and what evidence must be reviewed. A regulator’s requirements are separate from a private buyer’s code; do not assume a Buyer CoC audit replaces a legal or regulatory inspection or obligation.
Before arranging an audit, confirm which code applies, who issued it, what sites or activities it covers, and whether the buyer has specified audit methods, reporting arrangements or timing.
What are the practical benefits?
- Clarifies the buyer’s expectations by translating the applicable code into audit criteria for the agreed scope.
- Provides a structured review of relevant processes, documents and records against the buyer’s requirements.
- Helps your team identify where evidence supports conformity and where further attention may be needed.
- Gives the organisation feedback that can inform its own improvement planning.
- Supports communication with the buyer by providing audit findings in line with the agreed arrangements.
- Helps management understand whether responsibilities, controls and records relevant to the code are being maintained.

Enquiry and application
Contact us with a short description of your organisation, the buyer’s code and what you need. Share the applicable code or buyer request where available.
Initial assessment and scope
We learn about your business and agree which organisation, locations, activities and requirements are to be assessed.
Audit planning
We plan the audit with you, including the relevant criteria and practical arrangements. The audit plan depends on the agreed scope and the buyer’s requirements.
Audit implementation
The auditor reviews relevant documented information and records, speaks with appropriate personnel and evaluates evidence against the agreed code. The audit may include observation of relevant activities where appropriate to the scope.
Findings and next steps
The audit outcome and any findings are communicated through the agreed process. If issues are identified, the organisation can consider appropriate action and provide evidence where required by the applicable arrangements.
Decision and certification, where applicable
Any certification or outcome depends on the service agreed, the applicable requirements and the audit findings. Certification is not automatic, and no result can be promised in advance.
Follow-up and continued improvement
Where ongoing assessment or surveillance is part of the agreed programme, arrangements are discussed with the organisation. Feedback can help inform continued improvement.
What should you prepare?
Prepare information that lets the auditor understand the organisation and assess the applicable buyer code. The exact requirements depend on the code and agreed scope.
- The buyer’s current code of conduct, audit protocol and any request or instructions related to the assessment.
- A description of the organisation, its activities, relevant locations and the products or services supplied to the buyer.
- Relevant policies, procedures and assigned responsibilities that address the code’s requirements.
- Records and other evidence showing how relevant processes are implemented and monitored.
- Any previous audit findings, actions taken and supporting records relevant to the scope.
- Access to the people responsible for the processes under review, as well as personnel who can explain how those processes work in practice.
- Practical arrangements for the agreed audit scope, including access to relevant areas and records.
How long does a Buyer CoC audit take, and what affects time and cost?
The time and cost depend on the specific buyer code and the audit arrangements; no fixed duration or price is stated here. We can discuss what is involved after understanding your organisation and requirements.
Factors include the number of sites and activities in scope, the size and complexity of the organisation, the requirements in the buyer’s code, the availability and organisation of records, and the audit method or reporting requirements set by the buyer. The time needed to address any findings is also specific to the issues and the organisation’s response.
For a useful estimate, provide the applicable code, the buyer’s request, the scope and locations, and any required audit or reporting arrangements. The agreed scope and requirements should be clear before audit planning is finalised.
